项目的诞生
德国柏林、德累斯顿及慕尼黑三家国家博物馆与中国国家博物馆的合作是2005年中德文化交流项目的一个亮点。它促进了两国的相互理解以及两国文化关系的深化。第一份关于长期展示艺术品的协议是2007年5月25日由中国国家主席胡锦涛和前德国国家总统霍斯特•科勒在北京人民大会堂商定的。2009年1月29日德国国家总理默克尔与中国国家总理温家宝最终在柏林的总理府签订了合作展览项目“启蒙的艺术”这一协议。
展览的整体构思和组织工作由柏林国家博物馆、德累斯顿国家艺术收藏馆及慕尼黑巴伐利亚国家绘画收藏馆与中国国家博物馆共同合作完成。德国三家国家博物馆的策展人团队也得到了来自不同专业领域著名学者的大力支持。欧洲启蒙时期的艺术将在很高的学术层面上展现在非欧洲观众的面前。 对于柏林、德累斯顿和慕尼黑三方来说，“启蒙的艺术”展是继2005年在德国展出的中国摄影展“中国人本”以及2008年在中国美术馆展出的两个德国展“灵动的风景：穿越德意志艺术时空”和“格哈德•里希特”之后的进一步共同合作的成果。
此次展览主要由德国外交部出资赞助并得到了中国国家主席胡锦涛及德国国家总统克里斯蒂安•伍尔夫的大力倡导和支持。
